Three quarters of a century old

I'm recovering slowly but surely from a nasty fall, and attempting to master details of writing and blogging that had disappeared totally from my mind.

Tomorrow is my 75th birthday. It's a nice opportunity to attempt to open up Antipodes after this long delay.

  1. Aloha! Back online after drenching laptop, just recovering all my links onto new system and find this from you - immediately relate as I too 75 this year, and commiserate - falls seem to go with this life stage dammit! The reflection that goes with the after-shock tells me to lower velocity of attack - be ever more alert, aware and cautious. Slow is the Go. My brother did not heed this, fell while walking on property in rough terrain bush (which I'd forbidden him, but ono, he knew better...NOT!) - upshot, or down result, being he lay helpless, alone and finally was eaten by the animals, goannas & bush turkeys. I didn't stop crying for 2 years plus,. It was just sheer horror. I fall too, slip in mud mainly. All bent and sore after fall last week, Makes me sleep a lot. And determined not to suffer brother's fate, but...who knows...
So William sad to hear this from you, but there is also value in the slower life. Unexpected consequences, as is said. I do enjoy contemplation. Random bits of life's elusive jigsaw are suddenly revealed to have their place in illuminating the bigger picture. The process of Enlightenment is given a front row boost. I find myself laughing a lot. Hope you are not too badly bent. I'm hobbling on 2 staffs/sticks, but at least it keeps me going. Just hate the "pity" you get from others, so only venture forth for supplies now, about once a fortnight. Life can change on threepence eh! Been reading over and over Mayle & Durrell, since unable to get to local Library, so I think of you often. Sto Kalo!
What I have been wondering is what are the impacts of the extraordinary diaspora of refugees - are they filtering into your part of France?
